"Away from God" is an accepted meaning of hell. Hell or "eternal damnation" is being away from God's presence.

That Islam tradition practices are originated during the time of Abraham. Islam comes from the word "Ismael" - son of Abraham to his household helper. Islam's actions (persecutions) toward Israel (jews and/or Christians) is an act of jealousy because Abraham's full attention was on Isaac since he was born of Sarah - Abraham's wife. Even at this time, Abraham is being called "Father" by muslims.
