In this case they are not denying one specific story. There have been many news reports, in the NYT and elsewhere, over many months if not longer, that the U.S. has been pushing Pakistan to go harder after terrorists in their country. Again according to many reports, the message has been delivered that if you won't do it, maybe we will.
