I understand it if you feel that I am nagging, but please understand what's my point.
- You have trouble with dbf corruptions, and you wrote that you use VFP tables directly, meaning Use, Replace and so on.
- I never use VFP tables directly, instead I use SQL commands (Select, Update and so on. And I never have any problems with table corruptions, and the same goes for my more that one thousand clients.
Now you want to try VFP in combination with SQL CE, which means that you have to rewrite your application to use SQL syntax. I strongly advice you to be fair to VFP, rewrite your application to use SQL syntax against the dbfs. Then if you still have table corruptions after the conversion, it's very little job to change to SQL CE, since most of the work is already done anyway.
NB! I also strongly advice you to
require that your clients use one UPS per PC/Server, and that if they don't, you will charge them for every data problems that may have been caused by a missing UPS. The same goes for sloppy network connections. In our contracts we require one UPS per PC/server, and the result is that our clients have more confidence in use since they understand that we care about the importance of their data and their running business. If a client refuses/ignores to follow our requirements, we will charge them double each time for data repair. After a few bills they get the picture.
