Mike, the dim view of the national media is due to the reality of the media bias. Fox slants to the right, but at least when they have some opinion piece, they pull a conservative and a liberal for their opinions. CNN and all the others will stack the deck with 3 libs and 1 conservative, then they play stack on top of the conservative.

CNN picked up the WP story the other day and they attempted to legitimize their opinionator selection by saying, "retired FBI agent", but then they went on to say, "who now works for the ACLU". There was no counter from a law enforcement person who would say that we are not operating like big brother. It is predictable. You rarely see a "fair and balanced" report from the MSM, other than Fox's attempt at balance, which is why they are now the number 1 news source. People know they lean right, but they do provide a differing opinion.

Having said that. . .
I was talking to a reporter the other day about his story on the MPD not following the consent order (which we were following - by not having a political surveillance unit. We just didn't have the consent decree posted.) I told him I don't have a problem with the media snooping around, asking the hard questions. If our reporters didn't do that, we would be just like any other totalitarian state that cannot control their government. While I may sometimes feel the sting of the reporting, I agree we need them out there checking on us.
