Assuming the field state is being set by how you are setting the field to updatable, can you do the following after fetching the data:
CURSORSETPROP("SendUpdates",.F.)
TABLEUPDATE(2,.T.)
CURSORSETPROP("SendUpdates",.T.)
That should reset the field state on your cursor without actually saving anything back to the server.
