True, from what I've heard. My understanding is you reinstall the battery once a month or so to recharge it (if you let it self-discharge too much that's bad for its life).

One downside to doing this is you lose the (effective) built-in UPS function of the installed battery. So, you have to start thinking about using a UPS with your laptop.
