>I cannot wait for this game, which is now 8 hours away. It's like the anticipation of a Super Bowl.

>Part of it is personal. I graduated from Wisconsin-Madison and this is my team. IMO this is the best team they have ever had. The other part is the history and tradition of the Rose Bowl itself. When I was a kid in Maine with no experience of California or palm trees, or warm New Year's Days, it was almost like a fairy tale. The bowl system has been badly corrupted and commercialized since then but there's still something about the Rose Bowl.

>This is a particularly intriguing matchup. TCU is undefeated and ranked 3rd in the country. Wisconsin lost once and is ranked 4th or 5th, depending on which poll you believe. The story line could not be simpler -- size vs. speed. Wisconsin has its usual huge offensive line and punishing running attack. They have not one, not two, but three tailbacks who can disappear into the end zone at any instant. TCU is known for its defense, statistically #1 in the country.

>A matchup to watch will be between two probable NFL all-pros. Left tackle Gabe Camini of Wisconsin, the winner of the Outland Trophy as college football's best lineman, will be lined up across from speedy Wayne Daniels of TCU.

>My pick, trying not to be biased about it, is Wisconsin going away. If TCU wins I will salute them with no sour grapes.

>Can't wait.

Wow, what a game. All credit to TCU. They are better than I thought they were. If that Wisconsin field goal hadn't been shanked by a normally reliable kicker, who knows, but there is no point even going there. Two good teams and a great Rose Bowl. Salud.
