Yet another of my musical recommendations. This is a video of the 25th anniversary of the Rock and Roll HOF show at Madison Square Garden. I have not even watched it all yet. The U2 segment on the second of three discs hits it out of the park. They welcome Patti Smith and Bruce Springsteen to the stage for "Because the Night." None of them are as young as they used to be but they still know how to light up a stage. It was particularly nice to see Patti Smith show she is still in touch with her inner punk rocker. (She has a new book out which has received reviews most writers can only dream of). Even better is "Gimme Shelter." Mick Jagger struts on stage -- no one struts like Mick Jagger -- along with Fergie. To be honest I had only a vague notion who Fergie is. She emerges at the top of the picture, shaking it for all it's worth, and proceeds to steal the stage out from under Jagger and Bono. She dances back and forth with Jagger in a way that would wake the dead. They say rock and roll is about lust and here it is.
