And just hope that you don't have happen to what happened to someone I knew at university. What happened was that a person living in the same city with the same name was killed in an auto accident. When the accident report was filed at either the police or highway patrol, the person entering the data apparently selected the information according to name rather than driver's ID, and when they checked they only looked for the name and city information, and as luck would have it, the wrong person was selected. The report of the death (wrong person) then propagated through linked computer systems within the day. Anyway, the person didn't discover the effects until several days later:
* His university registration didn't go through -- when he checked with university administrative office he was told that his enrollment was cancelled.
* His rent check bounced, as all other checks written recently -- including utilities and telephone service.
* When he tried to check his bank accounts, he discovered to his horror that it was locked.
Even after two years everything had not been sorted out, and his lawyer was still working out the details of the lawsuit.
