Let's not forget that's how the whole program started. Microsoft offloaded tech support to the user community and it was a way of dangling carrots.

Well at least I know now that I'm good for something. I never said online contributions are irrelevant, I said, "the UT forums are not on MS's radar any more. You can post here to your heart's content and will never be awarded for it." There are many recognized for their on line contributions (MSDN forums), but more and more that's not enough to win or even hold on to the award. In the last year, I penned a contirbution to a book, a code magazine article, started a new company, run a user group that I founded (now entering its 4th year), traveled at my expense over 15,000 miles, spoke at 32 community events, wrote numerous blog posts and attended a number of community events as an attendee. So if you think that compares to sitting in the comfort of my home and answering a few questions on the forums, then you are indeed mislead in what it takes.

Your position to me sounds more like sour grapes. You used to be an MVP and what you had to do was greater than any today, but the fact of the matter is, in today's world you can't cut it so you're angry at all who can and do.
