Mobo is shorthand slang for motherboard. Most computers will give a warning at boot if the CMOS battery is low - usually an extra beep, and maybe a screen error message that you have to acknowledge. However, I've seen BIOS settings change or get lost due to a low battery, before it gets so low that you get an error message at boot.
A typical lithium button-cell CMOS battery should be good for about 5 years.
