And that was one of the reasons the Microsoft's KIN phone failed, the data plan cost too much for the target audience. Plus, the Verizon retail sales people didn't promote it in their stores - which is also probably going to be a problem for WinPhone7, since they will promote Android (and soon iPhone) devices over WP7 devices.

MS was smart to offer Halo etc which definitely is a distinguishing feature, but obviously not enough to cause a groundswell. IMHO MS is going to need a *big* difference point like reliable speech-to-text or a really smart agent (not like that awful paperclip) to create enough zing to cause mass migration. JMHO.
