When I was in my 30's, still living in GA and my kids were younger, I managed the swim team at our neighborhood "Swim & Tennis" club. All three of my kids were on the team (which was one reason I volunteered to be manager ... didn't have to pay for my kids participation <g>). We always hired young coaches, typically 18-20 years old ... they tended to have a good rapport with both the youngest swimmers (5 & 6 year-olds) and the older kids (up to 18). It was our custom for the home team kids to all jump into the pool and horse around a little after the meet was over if the home team won. On more than one occasion, I ended up in the pool too ... not pushed, but picked up by the coach who'd then jump in with me in his arms. Good thing I wore a water-proof watch!

Emily's favorite student this past summer was a 4 year old girl. She told Emily she wanted to be her sister. At that age biological facts are a little vague. I remember Tricia and I telling the girls that if we hadn't met they wouldn't be here. "Like maybe Mom would be married to Tyler's dad?" Allie said. (Hmmm). "We would still come visit you," Emily said sweetly.
