>I think you have be using anti-logic to come to the conclusion that this shooter who, from all accounts, leans left, has been influenced by the talking heads of the right. He is a dope head, goth, satanist from what I can see, and I can't recall ever seeing any of those at a republican gathering. I have seen some at democrat functions.

>Either way, "targeting" is simply a descriptive term for attempting to unseat the other party's candidate, whether they are right or left. Both sides use the term and have used it forever, so to those on the left, stop the condescension. I guess the libs are going to stop their targeted mailings now....

I think "in the cross-hairs", targetting, battlefield etc are pretty common across the political spectrum.

Sports metaphors are very violent, very militant etc and I'm sure sports fans are lot more unstable (and an lot drunker) than most political junkies and I don't see anybody taking shots at NFL coaches. (players of course a different matter - that being more of an issue of association than rhetoric - and of course the whole different category of Burress-on-Burress shootings <bg> )

Charles Hankey

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
