The trouble is that, as an independent consultant, you do more work than just for a client. You have to do your bookkeeping, keep up on current knowledge, read and write messages here :), prospect for new clients, go to the store to buy supplies, etc., etc. All the things that go with having your own business, but which aren't directly related to any one client.
