I recently took over the support of a FoxPro Windows 2.6 application that has an intermittent problem when printing. The window systems error ‘ Can’t Access Print Managers’ occurs occasionally, and randomly during print jobs. All the reports are hard coded and use the ’???’ command to write to the printer port, one line at a time. When the error occurs, the only remedy is to reboot the machine. Okidata dot matrix printers are used exclusively. The application runs standalone and uses local printers. All systems run Windows 95 or 98. I have tried many different Windows configurations but as yet haven’t hit on an answer.

The application will soon be rewritten in Visual FoxPro but solving this problem would be a big help in the interim. There are too many reports to consider redoing the reports before going to Visual.

Does anyone know what triggers the Error and how it can be fixed ?
