Dave, dave, I've fixed it, I've fixed it!!!
My page activate event does a grid.refresh. Now I've been doing that to make the little arrow appear against the first record. Now when you click anywhere on the "page", the tab gets the focus and the grid refreshs. By putting a grid.refresh in the activate event I reckon that the selected table became the child table, thus defeating Fox's internal mechanism for parent/child stuff (your first response clued me to that). So I take out the grid refresh completely! and it works.

I'm starting to feel sane again. This was a live production issue and driving me and my client nuts.

Now if I can only get the little record marker showing again :-)

Thanks heaps for mentoring.
