a) Euro Games is probably a term used here in the US. It refers to a style of board game that originated in Germany, found its way to other European countries and eventually to the US. The Euro Game that made the first splash here was Settlers of Catan. Others, such as Carcassonne followed. I have a local game store that specializes in Euro games, although they sell others. http://www.gamenightgames.com/index.php There is a large gaming community at http://www.boardgamegeek.com/.

b) I'm not surprised by what your friend told you. What interested me about the article was how the professionals were using their brains differently. They weren't damaged. So, obviously, you can train yourself in different things and use more of your brain.

>(a) I've never heard of "Euro Games" - and googling provided no enlightenment.

>(b) I mentioned the jist of this story to a biologist friend in the pub. He didn't seem to think it was news. His argument was that it is well known that if parts of the brain are physically damaged then other parts can (and will) take on the 'lost' functions. Given this then it should not be surprising that other potentially unused bits of the brain should be pressed into service in situations such as this. All of which is possibly true but still fascinating......
