>It's not a police state. You can bet there will be repercussions now that the story has hit the news. Heck, a former police chief was just convicted last week of abusing suspects (all black, I believe) while in the CPD and sentenced to 54 months in jail. I'm sure he will appeal but he's not going to get out of it after all the evidence that was presented at trial.

None of this is going to stop the weeks of harassment and generally wasted time and money next time. The rule is not set that you can not be arrested for having a recording device turned on while a cop is talking to you; on the contrary, it's on the books that you can be. This one case got into the media because it's a catchy story. How many cases can there be where the victim can't pull the media in, and rots in jail for doing to the state what the state does to us every day?

BTW, what happens if there's an automated camera, as in a shop, ATM, gas station or whatever, which happens to catch the cop doing what he does? Is the camera owner's duty to go through all the recordings every day and immediately destroy any of them where a cop's captured? I guess we could expect shops getting closed all over the state just because of the owners are incarcerated.
