>>I've previously mentioned Learndevnow.com which has all the AppDev training videos and sample code for $99 a year. My only complaint is DRM and a somewhat clunky interface, but the value is great.

>>Finally plunked down another $99 for my first month of Pluralsight access ( also including sample code ) and I have to say I am very impressed. I know Naomi is also a fan and I believe Kevin and Craig and others here know a lot of the authors of the Pluralsight material. Unlike LearnDevNow, which lets you use two boxes (not at the same time) with IE and employs DRM ( which can get wonky ), the Pluralsight stuff can be accessed from any web connection with pretty much any browser and uses a very smooth and easy to use Silverlight viewer. ( still single user license, just that the user can access it from any box any time)

>>Very nice selection of stuff at Pluralsight. Julia Lerman does their EF stuff, and right now I'm doing Scott Allen's C# course (over 6 hours) Lots and lots on SQL server, Linq, Sharepoint, WCF, WF, even 2 hours on Windows 7 phone.

>>Great value. ( $499 for a full year )

Yep. $99 a month or $499 a year. You can start with the $99 then upgrade to the year and get credit. There are more extensive plans that include on-line classes and the ability to download the content as mp4 and that sort of thing but the basic of videos and sample code for all their stuff is $499 for a year. Since any one of the courses would cost at least that much per day live it is a tremendous value. I have never learned anything at a conference other than how nice it is to hang out with like-minded people and how much the presenter knows about some new technology ( or some wildly esoteric implementation of an old one ) but I find these video courses have all the benefits of real classroom instruction without the distractions and demands one be in learning mode at a particular place and time (my ADD I guess)

I encouraged anyone who has never experienced this kind of learning to give it a try, either with Pluralsight or Appdev ( or both - they complement each other nicely - AppDev has more stuff on slightly older technologies as well as some new stuff and has terrific sample code and Pluralsight very strong on a diverse group of skilled presenters and lot more content on new technologies as well as a more modern interface.)

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
