Not supporting their ideology is not going to be an option. When God is whispering in your ear, dissident voices can be very distracting - and must be quickly silenced. Very few Russians in 1917 were Bolsheviks. But the Bolsheviks knew what they were and were very focused. I don't think there exists in the Middle East any kind of counter-force. ( as an aside, I really wouldn't want to be Assad right now - the Alawis have been in the MB gunsights for a looong time )
