Probably what you've got are these:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BilberryAround here there are lots of farmed blueberries - and I agree, they are pretty tasteless. But there are wild blueberries which can be freely picked in many places - even the North Shore mountains. They, too, are small but flavourful.
My theory is there is the same amount of flavour in any single blueberry, no matter its size :)
