Yes, and since marketplace isn't available in all markets yet (eg India) that was a wonderful trick. ;-) Which was quickly hacked- (google Chevron WP7) though a WP7 release then blocked the hack. My understanding is that MS is considering homebrew features now to allow deployment via other means than marketplace.
