- Once you learn .NET it doesn't take longer than VFP.

- You need to brush up on your COM knowledge. While it may be better than PHP, it has some serious flaws. It's full of security problems and just doesn't scale to meet many demands today.

- Can you show me where MS is "furiously back-pedaling to be like" PHP?

And COM in Windows is better than stuff like PHP on Windows which Microsoft is furiously back-pedaling to be like because it's so easy and popular.
