People in Diyarbakir told me I spoke Istanbulu Turkish. ( of course, my teachers were from Istanbul University, and METU and at one time I taught at Ege Universitesi In Diyarbakir all of that I think sounds very Western Turkish. )
Here in the US I can often tell if someone speaking on television is originally Canadian, even though the difference is very subtle.
But there are many actors from Britain and Australia who have such a perfect American accent that most people do not know they are not Americans if they don't read about it somewhere.
