This does not speak directly to the problem you are experiencing, sorry. But what you say about not being sure what solved it is an interesting topic. I think it was Joe Durrett, who was at the top of the Sales org chart when I was at Kraft, or maybe it was his marketing counterpart, who described it as "white on white on white." What he meant was Kraft, like many other organizations, tries to build sales using many methods. The most direct was to give grocery retailers money in return for running the product in an ad and reducing the shelf price. At the time there was a movement toward fixed fund allocations, also known as street money -- the manufacturer gives money to the retailer in a more long term way and they work together, relying on mutual trust (which didn't always exist) to sell the brand. Advertising in various mediums. Brand loyalty accumulated over the years. "What really put that unit of blue box through the scanner?" (Kraft mac and cheese -- go buy some today! <g>) Kraft wanted to quantify everything, which is smart business no matter what business you're in, whether you're big or small. The head of the significant chunk of IT I was in, a great guy named Sal Paciello, liked to say, "If you can't quantify it, it doesn't exist." It frustrated them to the senior VP level and undoubtedly above that it was so hard to quantify. (Sal's boss, BTW, was Bruce somebody, who left to cofound Boston Chicken, now known as Boston Market).

Sorry for the digression. Good luck with the SCT corruption issue. FWIW I also suspect some outside force is the cause, which is not especially helpful.

>I certainly will, if I do well enough to resolve it.

>I may not know, of course, which of the actions I take have anything to do with it, as I will be trying a number of different things. Since I do not know how to intentionally cause the error, and since it occurs relatively infrequently, it will take some time to have any certainty that the problem has disappeared.

>>>OK, those look like very detailed instructions. Write caching is enabled for the disk where my apps live. How is that relevant?
