>>>>>>This is a slightly sports obsessed site so I am surprised no one has said anything yet about the Super Bowl. So here we go. I have plenty of thoughts about it but will lay back.

>>>Off course those (excellent) figures don't allow for a weighting on population, TV ownership etc.
>>>
>>>A better figure would be what percentage of those who where able to watch it did.

>>It's really high. It's practically a national holiday. I hear what you're saying, because the Super Bowl is a tiny fish in the World Cup pond, but here it's huge.
>
>No thats not what I'm saying. It is a huge audience but. What I'm saying is that comparing with earlier years is another example of how statistics can be misleading.
>
>Years ago the FA cup here had a similar impact. The shops where practically empty on that Saturday at 3.00 but now it seems less so. One change is that it used to be one of the few games you could see live on TV where now there are live games several times a week.

I don't think you could find many (if any) tvs in a store, coffee shop, bar, airport (yes even airports will switch from CNN to the game), etc here tuned to anything other than the superbowl on superbowl sunday.... some folks in their homes will watch other stuff and flip back and forth to catch the score, but many if not most watch it -- even some folks who don't watch football every weekend or at all. Some will only watch the half-time show at home. It's crazy. And now some watch only to catch the commercials :o)
