The table has date fields with nothing special as far as I can see and linux version doesn't have a problem with a blank date field. What am I missing here ? Do I have to write additional code to handle blanks ?

Perhaps it's something dealing with NULL values?? MySQL might have a setting to allow those and/or blanks....
