I saw a TV report where they were able to duplicate the problem - well KINDA duplicate. They had a guy with a laptop sitting in the passenger side and with one click of the mouse he was able to cause the throttle to open all the way and then stick there. If I remember right he said he was causing an electronic short to do it. I'm still baffled that people don't have the presence of mind to take the car out of gear...duh!
