If Toyota is half the car company I believe them to be, they should have had a senior engineer personally call on him at his earliest convenience.

Maybe they did, and what's missing here is a follow-up. I just found it rather inconsistent that the government investigation found no problems, yet someone with serious engineering chops and rep claimed to have a repro.
