Stay with Enter, lest your users grow a third hand. Two for data ENTRY, third to slap you for trying to introduce the tab.
I've seen a guy enter about 500 invoices in two hours, with an average of 4-5 line items (a 7 digit code plus the quantity), so that's 5000 numbers - 5000 quick movements over the numeric keyboard, each followed by the pinky on the Enter key, followed by a move of the finger on the paper one line down.
Whoever invented data TABby, is a moron who never saw these guys work, or a callous grumpy dark creature who has but doesn't care.
