Where I've worked for the past 9 years tried a year of Java conversion back in 99 or so. Then they regained their senses and rewrote it (from FoxPro DOS) in VFP. <s>
>>Are you saying it's like Java? "Lots of apps start to get converted to Java, very few get converted." <s> Seriously, I read story after story on the forums of people who have been banging away at .Net for 2 or more years and still can't create what they had in VFP. A friend did it with the help of a well known conversion company. After courses, consulting, and about 4 years, he had a product. It's probably a good job (he's a brilliant math guy), but 4 years. The emperor may have some clothes on, but they aren't covering all the parts they should (from a story/saying "The Emperor Has No Clothes").

>I agree, however, I've seen a few cases where the groundwork laid by that first conversion paid off for the next apps. The layers and architecture were then in place (and the learning curve over) so the future apps went pretty fast. However, with everything changing so much over the years so far, that meant they were tied to the their original design if they wanted RAD development from that point on .
