>>It doesn't follow that the succeeding technology will be as lucrative as the one being supplanted

A couple of years back I habitually suggested on UT that VFP developers might like to get out of it and move to project planning, database administration or one of the many other roles that aren't as vulnerable to vendor gyrations and that are difficult to outsource. Some did move on. Previous luminaries like Andy Kramek became DBAs and said goodbye one day and never were seen again in the VFP forums. Others say they love development and choose to continue. People who want to develop do indeed have tough choices right now.

>>All of our platforms seem to be subject to burning now

That's the ex-MS CEO of Nokia. He's expected to announce acceptance of some other OS tomorrow- either WP7 or Android.

>>"It's like mackerel by moonlight
>>it shineth but it stinketh"

LOL. isn't that the old Alice joke- "why is a mackerel like a proctoscope?"
"... They ne'er cared for us
yet: suffer us to famish, and their store-houses
crammed with grain; make edicts for usury, to
support usurers; repeal daily any wholesome act
established against the rich, and provide more
piercing statutes daily, to chain up and restrain
the poor. If the wars eat us not up, they will; and
there's all the love they bear us.
