Certainly, but not in order to activate the form. To quote Linus van Pelt in Peanuts from my memory, when he was asked why he only brushed the front of his shoes before he went to see his schoolmaster. "I want to give a good first impression, but I don't care about what he thinks of me when I leave."

>You definitely want a CLEAR EVENTS in that scenario ;-)
>
>>I agree start "start" is not the correct word, thus the quotation marks. When I explain the read event concept, I often compare it to the generals who prepare for a battle. First they place all the soldiers, tanks, warships and so on and ask them to prepare for the battle. This is the same as Do form in VFP. Read event is in this scenario the same as "Fire" or "start fighting". Without this last command, no fight is started.
>>
>>Personally I never use modal forms, but you usually call them from other modeless forms, right? In that case you already have an active Read event, so no new is necessary.
>>
>>>A decent application SHOULD have a READ EVENTS, but it would still work without one, in the case of a modal form. I don't think it is entirely correct to say that the form doesn't "start", but rather that without a READ EVENTS (or a modal form), Visual FoxPro won't wait for input before running the remaining commands in the main program - and eventually reaching the end of the program.

>>>>Without the last line, your form won't start since step no 1 only "prepares" the form while step 2 actually "starts" it. From the command window you don't need Read events, but you definitely need it in an exe. I'm not 100% sure about an app though, only 55% :-)
