Which is where the battle analogy diverges - I don't see a general who can issue a "stop fighting" without at least having an opinion from the general of the enemy.
Maybe a theatrical comparison would be more appropriate - Read Events would be "raise the curtain", Clear Events "drop the curtain". But the piece played wouldn't have a script all the way through; the actors would only know what to do and how to react, but would have to wait for the audience to do something that they can react to.
