If you double click the Detail bar you can set the size of the band, I think VFP usually defaults to 6 lpi.

As far as field sizing goes you are kind of stuck, especially if you switch to proportional fonts and getting them sized right is mostly trial and error. You could write a .prg to process the .frx as a table and adjust fields it's not too hard.

If your table has enough fields to not fit across the page you are better off telling the wizard to vertically layout the detail band and resize/move things yourself.
