>In fairness, RS may have moved to newer MS flavors but he still supports and offers paid updates for West Wind for VFP. Clearly he perceives some residual value in it, though last time I purchased some licenses he commented that WW income had dropped right off.

>Of course we all need to make $ and we all need to apply ourselves in an environment where that can happen. For some people, VFP income has dropped off and there is little choice but to move on. For others, VFP remains a viable option. So what? Surely each of us is capable of deciding what is best for us. E.g. I believe that developers should be focusing intently on mobile platforms, but some people will have different rationales and there is no single correct answer.

But my point is this : Rick has a financial interest in promoting VFP as a web solution to the exclusion of other technologies. He is the big fish in that pond if someone wants to buy a 3rd party tool.

And I certainly don't begrudge him continuing to sell and support such a clever product which he put so much work and knowledge into.

And yet, personally, with all his knowledge of WW, VFP etc he chooses to use a different technology for his own work and has made no secret of his support of and interest in VFP being a legacy thing.

Doesn't that say something to those who have knowledge of only VFP that other choices might not be the result of being too stupid to see the wisdom of Fox as the solution to all problems?

So if someone declares knowledge of VFP, web, competing technologies superior to that of someone I know for a fact understood it well enough to make VFP do stuff no one else at the time seemed to know how to make it do, and then defend it with either not wanting to talk about RS's choice because it would take all night and declare Rick has some kind of "bias" (which, if anything, should be in favor of VFP if he's trying to look out for his own financial interests) , or to make comments to Viv like "well if you had done more than one web site" then I start to wonder "who is this guy"?

Still in the dark about that one.

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
