Mormons are taught that pre-marital sex is a sin. They hear this as teen agers. They know it. I assume that he was raised LDS, but he may not be. BYU has had non-Mormons on their teams. Jim McMahon comes to mind. From what I've read, Davies went to school officials and told them he broke the code. He could have kept it quiet, but there is some honor in admitting you broke a promise. He's not getting any different treatment than anyone else that breaks the honor code at BYU, and he shouldn't.
