Or even Utah State. I still think had they lost to Boise St. on Saturday, that the Aggies would be on the outside or they would be one of the play-in games. A 12 seed solidifies my thoughts there. I'm not sure I agree. Just because a conference title only gave them a 12 seed doesn't mean a conference title loss would have had them the outside. (Play-in game? possibly).
Yes, their RPI/SOS disparity is pretty wide (15 vs 120), and yes, the selection committee doesn't look favorably on that wide a range. But they had a road win at St Mary's, which helped them. I'm not sure there's ever been a team with an RPI under 20 that didn't make it in. I think it's more likely that a loss in the WAC finals would have put a 28-4 Utah State team in ahead of UAB....but we'll never know for sure.
Had Utah State lost to St Mary's, I think the Gaels would have been in, and Utah State might have needed the WAC title to get in.
It's great to talk about all the "what-ifs"...but what I hate talking about is how badly Colorado and V-Tech got stiffed. Jay Bilas said it best...."this not only doesn't even pass the eye test....it doesn't pass the laugh test either".
