I think the fact that the official release of PHP has no plans to go to 64-bit says something important. From my internet reading: many apps (not all, of course) actually get slower with 64-bit or the increased performance is so small as to not be worth it. I think it's more hype than reality that an app needs to be at 64-bit or that 32-bit is going away anytime soon. I'm open to proof of a different viewpoint.
