You are right about win+M, it minimizes all windows, and it seems that it also closes any remote desktop connection open that was not minimized already (found it just now, I had 3 RDPs open but I was working with one the other two were minimized, and for that one I got the closed connection dialog). The advantage of win + D in my opinion is that it does NOT minimize all the windows, but it TOOGLES the windows, thus, the first time it will minimize your windows to show the desktop, but if you press them again and all the windows you had open will be open again. Win + M does not do this, it only minimizes so you were right.

It seems there is a way to un-minimize with win + M, just found out in the link I gave Dennis this:
