Ages ago, Alex, Allen and Alva arrived at Antibes, and Alva allowing all, allowing anyone, against Alex's admonition, against Allen's angry assertion: another African amusement . . . anyhow, as all argued, an awesome African army assembled and arduously advanced against an African anthill, assiduously annihilating ant after ant, and afterward, Alex astonishingly accuses Albert as also accepting Africa's antipodal ant annexation. - Walter Abish, Alphabetical Africa (1974)

>>>>>>>>>Every single word in that sentence begins with the letter "a" ... *every* one! I looked up the book on Amazon, hoping there was a Kindle version so I could just sample the first couple of chapters. There isn't, but it does allow you a "Peek Inside". Every single word of the first *chapter* begins with an "a"!! The second chapter introduces the letter "b" and every word in that chapter starts with either a or b. Second chapter introduces "c", so all words start with either a, b or c ...etc.etc.etc.

>>>>>>>I am watching the best closing episode in television history. The last episode of Mary Tyler Moore was pretty good but "The Sorranos" finale has it beat. Those writers were beyond belief.

>>>>>Agree 100%. Truly a brilliant idea. But then you have to remember that those are the same writers that came up with Larry, Darrell and Darrell. They should be given a special award just for that creation.

>>>>Quite right, sir. Writers get litte credit for making the stars, who DO get the credit, look great.

>>>Interestingly, that is almost exactly what Nathan Fillion said about Joss Whedon talking about Firefly and Serenity. Paraphrased, he basically said that he thought it was wonderful how Joss did all the work writing and directing while he (Fillion) gets the fame and the glory.
>>
>>And in this particular case I think we are talking about one of the most talented writers in the history of television. Joss Whedon is a charter invitee to my fantasy dinner party.
>>
>>The death of Firefly was really sad. I even mourn Doll House. At least Buffy and Angel got to tell their stories. After all, Buffy saved the world ... a lot <s>

>For what it's worth, in my world Fox will forever live in infamy for killing Firefly - especially after only half a season. At least Serenity got made, but I'd much rather 10 or 12 seasons of Firefly (of course, I'd have to be watching them on DVD). Amazing concept, terrific writing, and wonderful cast.

>Have you ever seen "Castle"? Once again Fillion is excellent. There is an episode at Halloween where he dresses up in his Mal Reynolds outfit. His daughter asks him what he's supposed to be, and he tells her he's a space cowboy, so she explains to him that there are no cows in space and accuses him of wearing that same outfit 5 years ago.

I've only seen one episode of Castle but liked it as I am also a Filion fan. He did a great turn as a demon/preacher on Buffy. I'll probably do a DVDathon on Castle ( local library good about stocking boxed sets. I'm about to geek out on three seasons of Fringe. )

Whedon brings so much original thinking to everything he does. When a promo announced Grey's Anatomy was going to do a musical episode I flashed on a famous all-singing Buffy episode where the music was actually good and the lyrics clever.

Charles Hankey

Though a good deal is too strange to be believed, nothing is too strange to have happened.
- Thomas Hardy

Half the harm that is done in this world is due to people who want to feel important. They don't mean to do harm-- but the harm does not interest them. Or they do not see it, or they justify it because they are absorbed in the endless struggle to think well of themselves.

-- T. S. Eliot
Democracy is two wolves and a sheep voting on what to have for lunch.
Liberty is a well-armed sheep contesting the vote.
- Ben Franklin

Pardon him, Theodotus. He is a barbarian, and thinks that the customs of his tribe and island are the laws of nature.
