Mitch McConnell? Now there is the most unlikable man in politics. Maybe that's the way you meant it.

I won't quarrel that Obama being half black was part of his electability. (Which makes you black, as Halle Berry has pointed out). But I don't think it's that simple. He was the editor of the Harvard law review and could have been making major money instead of working as a community organizer in Chicago. IMO his passion is a lot more genuine than that of most politicians. And he has a sense of humor, a placidity.

One of my favorite recent news stories was when he got his mouth busted up accidentally in a basketball game in the White House gym. Twelve stitches. The perp, a lowly staffer, felt horrible about it but Obama took it in good humor. It seemed to amuse him that the leader of the free world, with a brigade of Secret Service agents guarding him and every member of his family, was bloodied right there in plain sight.

I apologize for the gratuitous remark yesterday about the CIA. I have been out of work almost four months now and it has made me cranky sometimes. You have always been among my favorites here and it was a bizarre thing for me to say. Today I feel good.
