They lend them to words where they don't belong.
"In Artford, Erringford, and Ampshire urricanes ardly hever appen."
H's are also lent to Bostonians so that they can trade them for r's that are used in words that don't need them. For example
"Pahk the cah in Hahvahd Yahd" so they can use the extra r's in words like warsh.
