it makes sense to copy the related files I need from that directory, as those are subject to specific filtering, and simply zip the temporary directory. By that, I will avoid having to construct a very big line, which will face a limit at one point or another and make sure that everything that is in the temporary directory is subject to be archived.
Doubts on the bold part ;-)
When I ran into similar trouble with pkzip in the DOS days, I went with the option to create a list file.
Surely writing just the filename into a txt file is better than copying,
as Winzip has a similar option @filename (Dunno if it has problems, as I don't use Winzip if possible)
