From Wikipedia: In the context of computing, a "line-of-business application" is one of the set of critical computer applications perceived as vital to running an enterprise.

I've only run through the demos but I like the direction LightSwitch is headed in.

When you installed VFP you had a toolbox and raw materials and you could build a lot of different things, but most of us ended up building some version of a house. Well LightSwitch makes the assumption that you're going to be building a house and gives you a good framework for building that house... but it's still up to you if you want to build a beach shack, a McMansion, or a log cabin! This is light years ahead of the included VFP application builder wizard.

To me LightSwitch is a .NET application framework for building data-centric applications that will connect to MS-SQL data which is great because that's exactly what I want to do! When you start with a blank C# .NET application you don't have this built-in framework; you have to build it or buy it.

The best part is that (based on my assumption/impression) is that you can still get under the hood (to change the analogy) and get into the actual underlying code to make changes as necessary to your project because there will always be requirements not fulfilled by any framework.... but you still get to utilize the RAD that is LightSwitch.

Here's my thing: There are much smarter people in the world than me/I/myself :) and I would rather leverage their under-the-hood work as much as possible. LightSwitch is promising in this regard.
