The title caught my attention. How does "try and steal" go in other use cases? For example, "I shall not try nor steal", "this car was tried and stolen", "they tried and they stole the car", "yesterday, just as I was trying and stealing a car"... As I haven't heard much in terms of "try and do" in any other tense but present all through my past, I found myself in a bit of a pickle - what if I had to try and say something like that, what if I tried and said it wrongly? This is a dark gray area for me, and I confess I wouldn't know what to try and say.
