You can believe them or not. I'm not saying I agree or disagree with them. I always look at the company making the forecast and who is paying for the research.

FYI, one of the companies making the forecast is Gartner, who I learned long ago, is wrong more often than they are right. Several years ago I saw a Gartner report saying that .NET would rule the enterprise development space and Java would be in second place. A week later, another Gartner report said the exact opposite. See why I don't believe them?

In the case of phones, I've seen more than one company make the forecast that in 3-4 years Android will be #1, followed by Microsoft.

IOW, I'd bet I'd find more industry prognosticators saying Apple and especially Google will dominate mobile for the foreseeable future and that Microsoft is already completely irrelevant in this space!
