I agree that the tech is very cool and has a future. However, M$ at first attempted to prevent the hackers from opening up that future with new idea's and uses. Could it be that again M$ was shooting it's self in the foot. It's fortunate that someone or group realized that allowing others to hack might be in their best interest.

This is just another example for us (soft developers) to consider when we decide which programming environment we will use in the future. We all know the horror stories of developers moving from VFP to .Net, SliverLight, or any other Microsoft supported language (or environment). Horror stories such as IronPython, SliverLight, VFP,, VB6, .Net 1.1, (can't recall the name of the MS java) - all lost tech now. Ask Hank Fay how much time he lost with IronPython!

I for one will not bet my families future on M$. And I suggest that others review their commitment to M$.

Yes it true they still own the desktop. But even there they are losing many battles to Apple and Linux. Entire countries are moving from M$ to Linux. In the US, Apple is increasing their market share daily. As a personal note I just started working with a company that is using nothing but Apples. .Net is not going to work in an Apple only environment. But Python does as will other cross platform languages (wx, QT). If memory serves , didn't Penn state college move to Linux.

Then of course comes the issue of phones and tablets. No where is M$ even close to being part of the immediate future.
