I have adjusted something which would answer most of the related needs. The only condition in the search, when entering a search string, is to have at least one word with at least three characters. This is based on Naomi's suggestion but I evolved it a little bit. Basically, you can apply this approach with or without an exact search. So, if you search for:

go recno

...this will find all messages containing both words.

If you search for:

"go recno"

...this will find all messages with that exact string.

Note that I refer to messages but that can also apply to titles, if the default is respected, thus searching in the title and in the message.

As it only requires one word to contain at least three characters, in some circumstances, this might make the search to be a little bit slower. But, it works.

The only thing that I have not been able to find a workaround is for commonly used words having three or more characters. An example is the word About. This is not included in the index as it is considered a commonly used word. So, if the word About is the only word entered with at least three characters, it will not find anything. But, if you add to the same search string another word having at least three characters, and not considered a commonly used word by SQL Server, it will work. Basically, the goal is to enter at least one word with at least three characters which is not known as a commonly used word by SQL Server.

So, in the case of the recno issue, we should now be able to find the related messages.

So, to resume the situation:

1. Only one word is required to have at least three characters in the search string
2. This can be either with or without quotes (within quotes will thus be an exact match)
3. Search result can be a little bit slower in some circumstances if only one word is entered having at least three characters
4. Some isolated words, entered as is, such as About, will not be found, but will be if combined with at least one indexed word of three or more characters
